Helen & Leland Bird

This is baby Leland with mother Bird when George was away in Europe serving for the U.S. in WWII. Grandpa Bird served in the war from 1943 to 1946 and was away from his new born son for nearly 3 years. He did get to be around for the first couple months after Leland's birth, but soon left overseas.

Helen Bird was courageous and strong during this time. She also had a lot of good help watching over her, especially Uncle Maurice Bird.
